詹姆（威尔·埃斯蒂斯 Will Estes 饰）出生于警察世家，他的父亲弗兰克（汤姆·塞立克 Tom Selleck 饰）是现任纽约市警察局局长。身为家中最小的孩子，詹姆无疑是全家人的希望和骄傲，从哈佛法学院毕业之后，本可能成为一名成功律师的他毅然决定遵从父亲的意愿，穿上警服，成为执法界的一员。
